Violins And Heartstrings - Epilogue

Buffy smoothed her hair out as she looked at herself in the mirror, her stomach span with nerves as her eyes moved down her reflection the white strapless wedding dress she was wearing. Anya beamed at her as she arranged her skirt and Buffy tried to smile in return.

Moving her eyes to the window, she took a deep breath and sighed it out, she let a genuine smile play on her lips as she watched Willow leading Spike around the garden in search of faeries. She'd offered him a challenge to arrange a dream wedding in a month and he'd accepted it and surpassed what she thought was possible.

The back garden was like a fairy kingdom, lights twinkled from every nook and cranny and hundreds of white roses were arranged around the white chairs that were laid out on the lawn. The cake was a large white castle and there were champagne fountains and ice sculptures everywhere. She smiled again as Willow adjusted her fairy outfit, and as Spike rolled his eyes and knelt to tighten up the ties on her fairy wings Buffy couldn't stop herself giggling.

Anya moved to the window and stood beside her then smiled at the scene, as Willow turned around and hugged Spike both girls sighed down at him.

"He must love you." Anya smiled wide as she turned to face Buffy, who let a frown wrinkle her nose. "Any man who goes to such lengths for a girl must love them incredibly…"

Buffy noticed her friend starting to slip into miserable thoughts about men and opened her mouth to say something.

"Oh my god…" Anya breathed as she stared out of the window. "Who is that…oh, he's adorable…I have to meet him…who is he? I've never seen such a man, so happy, so cute, so sexy…"

Frowning as she tried to figure out who Anya could be looking at Buffy moved back to the window and looked down into the garden. She giggled.

"That's Xander." She watched her imminent husband laughing with his friend, Willow ran around their legs in circles holding her arms out like an aeroplane. "He's Spike's manager."

"I have to meet him…I mean now…this minute…"

Buffy laughed at the look of fear and desperation in Anya's eyes, she caught hold of her friends arm and stopped her in her tracks as she headed for the door.

"Anya…I'm kinda about to get married, I don't think he's going anywhere and even if he did…he's Spike's manager…I think I'd know how to find him…"

Anya paused and thought about it for a moment before looking calm and busying herself with Buffy's apparel again.

"So…" She tried to keep her focus on Buffy but her eyes kept wandering to the window. "…Does he, you know, have a girl?"

"Anya…" Buffy rolled her eyes and took a deep breath as she inspected herself in the mirror. "…Try and focus on the reason you're here…bridesmaid…ring anything?"

"I know…just he's so…gorgeous…"

"I'm getting married…" Buffy stared at herself in the mirror again as she tried to let it sink in. "I'm marrying Spike, I'm marrying William…I have a husband."

Anya pushed her towards the door. "Not yet you don't."

Spike paced the top of the aisle as the congregation took their seats, he was thankful for the small distractions Willow kept affording him with, she'd taken to bringing him flowers from the arrangements that he'd had carefully placed around the garden and he took each one from her with a smile.

As Joyce walked past him he grinned and felt his heart beat a little faster, Willow grinned up at her grandmother and slipped her little hand into Spike's. Smiling at Spike as he looked down at his daughter, Joyce couldn't help thinking what a great father he was going to make, Willow was already firmly attached to him and from what Buffy had told her they were a very inseparable family.

She watched Spike jump slightly as the string quartet started to play and bent down so her eyes were level with Willows.

"Think it's your big moment, sweetie. Tell your daddy you love him and go help mommy." She sighed as Willow turned to look up at Spike.

"Daddy…have to go now…mommy's waiting." Willow smiled as Spike crouched down in front of her. "I love you…don't be frightened."

"I love you too, sweetie, I'll be okay, just get your mum out here sharpish alright?" Spike pushed a strand of honey blonde hair behind her ear and pinched her cheek.

Willow giggled as she hurried down the aisle. Spike heaved a sigh and steadied himself. Joyce smiled wide as she sat down and waited for her daughter's big moment.

Buffy took a deep breath where she waited just inside the house, she could hear the music playing and Anya's fluttering about her only made her nerves worse. As Willow appeared with a broad smile on her face, Buffy's stomach lurched and she turned to Anya with wide eyes.

"You can do it…the quicker you do it the quicker I get to meet Mr.Cutie out there…"

Giggling at Anya's desperation to meet Xander, Buffy gathered her dress and stepped out into the daylight, arranging her bouquet she watched Anya hand Willow her basket of white rose petals and start walking with her.

Feeling a tiny bubble of panic erupt in her stomach, she watched her daughter intently and as Willow turned her head around and smiled wide at her she realised everything was going to be okay, she was going to marry the man she loved and they were going to be a family.

Taking her first tentative step towards the aisle, Buffy quickened her pace until she was back in line behind Anya and Willow. Looking straight ahead she felt her heartbeat quicken as she met Spike's eyes, her mind filled with thoughts about how gorgeous he looked in his navy frock coat and pinstripe trousers and she gave him a warm but nervous smile.

Spike grinned at her as she approached him; he could see the nerves in her eyes and wondered if she could see how nervous he was too.

As she stopped beside him, her hand instantly sought his and she smiled as he interlocked his fingers with hers and squeezed her hand reassuringly.

The ceremony passed like a blur to Buffy and as Spike slipped the ring on her finger and leant in to kiss her, she felt the world slow down again. Savouring the sensation of their first kiss as husband and wife, Buffy couldn't help smiling when Spike leant in close to her ear and purred into it.

"Now that I've caught you, I'm never letting you go."

She kissed him softly as he pulled away from her, his fingers locking tightly with hers and his eyes smiling at her. Spike felt something tugging on his coat and looked down to see Willow staring up at them. Buffy giggled as she remembered his proposal in the park and as she watched Spike bend down to pick Willow up she couldn't help grinning at them. This was what she'd always wanted, and now she had it, they were finally a family.

She absently watched Spike spinning around with Willow as the wedding guests started talking amongst themselves and Anya made a beeline for Xander. Smiling to herself she let her hand slip to her stomach and held it there as she looked at her husband, he turned to look at her and stopped playing with their daughter as a frown wrinkled his brows. Setting Willow down, Spike moved towards Buffy and placed his hand over hers where it lay on her stomach, he smiled wide at her and when she smiled back, he knew what she was saying. Spike grinned and pulled her into his arms, when he felt hers wrap tight around his neck he closed his eyes and sighed as he thought about how he was going to get the chance to be there for her this time.

"Best wedding present a man could ever have." Spike kissed her neck and sighed into it as she stroked the back of his hair.

"Thought you'd like it, it's not definite yet but there's always the honeymoon to keep trying on. You're not upset that we didn't go somewhere fancy are you?"

"I don't want fancy, love, I want peace and quiet and time to be with my ever expanding family…all that I can get here and nowhere else."

"I love you…" Buffy beamed up at him and he grinned as he let his forehead rest against hers.

"Love you too…" He sighed and let his fingers play on her stomach again, fascinated with the probability of there being another little bit of him and Buffy developing in her.

Buffy giggled as she broke free from him and headed towards the cake. Picking Willow up and holding her tight, Spike watched his wife as she laughed with her friends and then turned to smile broadly at him. He felt like she was playing on his heartstrings again, this time a silent melody of love and happiness that he couldn't deny. Walking over to her, he caught hold of her hand and felt warm inside as she kissed him, her face full of joy over being married and their future family. Spike looked down at the gold bands encircling both his finger and hers.

Six years of waiting was definitely worth it.
